Church changes

 A few months ago the church announced changes to our Sunday meeting schedules. We still have 2-hour church, but now we will be meeting for Sunday school and relief society / quorum meetings each week instead of alternating weeks. 

This will be a great bonus for me because even after all these years of alternating, I still don't know what week is Relief Society and what week is Sunday school! And I'm IN the Relief Society presidency!!

But this morning I spent some time viewing and listening to the videos and training on the changes  that the church provided for members and leaders. It was so inspiring. Mike and I have really been slackers about using that third hour on Sunday for our own personal and family sabbath study time. We didn't change much when the schedules changed to be only 2 hours long of meetings at church. We still just nap, and lounge, and watch tv., read novels.  Shame on us. Maybe we can do better now. I hope so. There is much to learn. 

I have noticed in this year's study of the Old testament that I really have learned more. Which kind of surprises me since we have been studying the Old testament once every 4 years for quite a few decades now. Granted, I was in other auxiliaries during part of that time quite possibly. I might have missed the general curriculum as I took care of primary kids, etc. 

But I have enjoyed seeing in the Old testament so many similarities with the Book of Mormon. And learning new things even though I've read those scriptures and bible stories before. In this day and age there are many more avenues to learn more and hear from other people about their take on certain scriptures, and it has been really good for me. I don't always listen to the podcasts, but when I do take the time to do it, or to read the other study guides, or even just to read the manual provided by the church and all their online resources, it has been enlightening and has strengthened my knowledge and testimony of the scriptures and the Savior. Jesus is everywhere in the old testament. You might miss it if you weren't looking! I've been looking.

 Wow. It's been HOT!

But I finally got the first five little tomatoes from our garden. They had better hurry up and ripen, because it looks like the vines are being affected by the curly leaf disease. We just always seem to get that every year! 

Before my tomatoes ripened, I bought little Cherry tomatoes. We had a lovely dinner here with Eric and Matt on Saturday to celebrate Matt's birthday the previous monday. Matt's about 38 years old now I think. Eric will be 36 on his birthday in september. Which is next month! But Mike made some lovely Dutch oven potatoes, and he grilled steaks for us and incinerated some squash. That made me kind of sad. And we had salad. And Caprisi kabobs as an appetizer. Mom came over and joined us for dinner. And we had homemade ice cream for dessert. It was a nice evening. They had come up to Cedar to see a couple of plays by the America something theater company that used to be the Neil Simon festival. I'm glad they came. We had a nice time together.  Too bad I forgot to take any pictures of our smiling faces!

Last night Mike and I went up to woods Ranch and tossed horseshoes between about 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. it was only in the 70s up there instead of in the 90s like it was here in town. It was a nice respite from the heat. Actually, our air conditioning is a nice respite from the heat, and I thoroughly enjoy having Central air!  On our way home we stopped in and visited with Kim and Terry Hunter. We made arrangements to have dinner with them on Monday night at our house! Mike is going to do a Dutch oven meal again. I'm looking forward to it.
