Robert and Janet came down for the weekend!. They love to come and visit mom, and they love to take her out to eat. Sometimes I go, too,. We all love to eat. Me more than most. Since we have lots of leftovers around here, and since Friday was a busy day for me at the temple, I did not join them that day. But I did join them on Saturday morning. We went to ihop. I wanted avocado toast, because I had already eaten a cinnamon roll at home that my loving ministering sister have brought to me previously. But they were out of avocados! How rude. So I settled for my hot cocoa and a couple of scrambled eggs to add some protein to my very high sugar saturated diet of late. I've really been eating a lot of pie.
Speaking of pie, the pecan pie that I added chocolate chips to was not a favorite. Pecan pie should be left unadulterated. Adding chocolate to it is just a no-no. I did not know that until now. Now I know. No more chocolate pecan pie. It was okay, I'm glad I tried it. But I won't do it again. Pure pecan pie for us from now on.
Amanda and Colton Rackham are staying in Cedar City with friends for the duration of the winter. They hope to finish their book on the walk. Their walk. The Walk that they did across America five years ago. They've been working on it for a long time and I wish them success for these coming months. Amanda didn't feel well on Saturday morning to join us for breakfast. Colton and the little boys did. But Mandy did join us for dinner at my house that night along with Colton and the boys. Janet and Robert bought Pizza and we really enjoyed a big pizza feast that night with Mom and everyone. We played games after. I think we kept mom up too late.
She seemed to fare okay, however. Robert and Janet attended 10:00 a.m. sacrament meeting at Our House Assisted Living with Mom. Mike and I attended our Ward at 9:00 a.m. . I made dinner for us all afterwards. Robert and Janet wanted to hit the road and head up to Provo and home before it was dark, so they were hoping to leave by 2:00 p.m.
Mike and I rushed out the door after 12:30 and our dinner, leaving everyone else to clean up, and we drove down to Cedar pockets and the Virgin River gorge. Our bishops son Gavin Zufelt was being married there. We were late enough that we missed the ceremony itself, but we were there in time to congratulate them, and just spend a relaxing couple of hours visiting with Ward neighbors and friends. It was so nice, sunny, warmer than Cedar city. It's 30 degrees F in Cedar City, or colder. Cedar pockets campground was 50° or more. It was sunny. There was no wind! They served us hot soup, and rolls, people could make s'mores if they wanted to. But it was just fun to sit around and sip on very hot hot chocolate and visit with our friends and neighbors that we seldom get to visit with.
Mike drove us by the newly completed Red Cliffs temple in St George on the way home. The open house will be in coming months. I am looking forward to that. I do enjoy looking inside the beautiful temples that the church builds. I like going to the open houses. As a matter of fact, Mike and I are traveling this coming weekend to Vernal. A friend of his (Marvin Capps) is being baptized, an old hunting buddy. A good friend of Scott Liebhardt's. Mike was very excited to hear that news, and committed to go. So we are. We will get to visit a lot of his family in vernal, and Nick's family in Herriman. And I made an appointment for me and Mike to attend the Orem Temple open house on next Monday on our return trip. I'm excited to see that one, too. There is nothing more lovely than a House of the Lord. But our gorgeous Red cliffs and rocks do come close.
