Rossman kiddos

We went to their local neighborhood playground.

Lovely views, too!

They have a pool ( closed for the season), picnic and grilling areas, a fireplace with surrounding covered seating, fitness center. Really nice.  Of course, as residents, they have full access, but I didn't bring their pass card, so we just played on the open playground area. And we forgot to bring water, drat. They were hot, tired and sweaty by the end.

Hot dogs for our sit- down dinner together, and I think we may make some cookies tonight. We will practice the turkey cookies in Corbin's seasonal cookbook.

Mike and I enjoyed some conference sessions, too.

Bros.

Splits for Hailey. She loves stretching and showing off her flexibility.

Splits for Hailey.

Splits for Hayden.

Our Pinterest Fails Cookies! Enjoy!

Quintin's second try, with help. The first try ended in tears.

These kids are SOOOOooo limber!

Mike's not lumber, but he is working hard at strengthening his new shoulder!

To Castle Rock!

Off we go, to Tend Katie and Casey's kiddos for a week while they celebrate their 20th anniversary -- in London. As in England. Plus a day in Paris.

I decided we should fly. I said it would be faster. I said it was potentially cheaper. I said, I said.

It might have been faster ... had our flight not been delayed 2 hours.  But we got here.

Proof we got home to Blithe Point.
All is well.

I worked two hours at the temple this morning ( only half my shift), came home, changed clothes, changed our bed, loaded the car and headed to Las Vegas. We ate lunch at a Las Vegas Burger King, went to the airport and I dropped Mike off at Terminal 1 with our suitcase. I went to park in Long term parking. By terminal 3 because 1 was all full. It was a lot I've never seen or used before. But I figured it out and got back to the right place and found Mikey. We made it to check our bag, got a wheelchair for Mike because his knee is SO sore. He can hardly walk.

After over a 2 hour delay, a gate change, seat changes and re-printed boarding passes, many trips to the bathroom ( and no snacks-- yay us!) a crazy screaming lady in there terminal, , we finally got boarded and got to the Denver airport. Katie and Casey had just got through security, so we met up in their terminal, ate dinner together at Qudoba, said our goodbyes, remembered to get their car key (!) and gathered our bag, found their car, navigated ourselves to their house...all before 9 pm.

Now, had we driven, we would have been here HOURS ago!!! Oh well, live and learn.

I hope you hey have fun! We plan to.

Library Again

A couple of weeks ago, when we were up north at Nick and Kaylee's house, I got a call from Sheri at the library. She and the director wanted me to help with some extra training to help fill in the training gaps that were left when a new person took over at circulation. I had trained my replacement. But she left after about a year, and didn't pass on a lot of the knowledge that I think I gave to her. I didn't know if my brain would still remember Library stuff after two plus years of retirement, but that night I dreamed of nothing but Library stuff. So I called Sherri and Matt and told them, yes, I am happy to return as a consultant/ trainer. I met with them after we returned from Herriman, and started last week. I've only been there a few hours, but Kelly and I have been over tons of stuff together. He found a missing necessary document, took lots of notes, made plans, etc. I feel like I'm overfilling his brain! But I hope it will help, as there have been some difficult situations for the department and library to overcome. I'm glad I could help out. I hope I did help out! Only time will tell. I did tell Sherri that I could try, but I was not a miracle worker. It was a good challenge for my brain, to organize and teach and lead and help someone learn to lead and supervise. Not to mention a huge ego boost to even be asked. A lot of it just comes with a lot of long years of experience, you know? And I did have that advantage of many years of experience. I also had good mentors. I hope he might consider me one of his. Or, maybe he just considers me a big pest by now! I think my last day was this morning. It would have been the fourth time we met for about 2 hours each time. Plus some other emails and conversations with others. It was kind of hard. I hope they will see improvements. If not, oh well! I tried.

Fall, Fancy Dogs, SG Temple and Homecoming

 Plus a couple of Birthdays.

After we celebrated Logan and Rachel's birthdays in Herriman, Mike had to recuperate quite a bit from his hard work out there. I was hanging out with my mom, taking her back and forth for hospital visits, blood draws, more doctor visits. She's been struggling with low sodium. It has made her feel very very sick and nauseous and weak and just all out icky. She's been trying really hard to get well enough to go on her trip to Florida. And she left today! She is there in Florida today on the 23rd. Tired and worn out, but there. I hope all goes well with Robert, Janet, Butch and Donna while they are there with her at Fort Walton beach.

Here is a picture of me and Mom in front of some fall decorations at Our House Assisted living.

Here is a fancy dog who lives at Our House Assisted living. Her name is actually Fancy.
Her owner's name is Suzie. The dog is so soft and fluffy and well-groomed, and well-mannered. I quite like her. Which is saying a lot considering I don't really like dogs as a rule.

I wanted to take a picture of her just standing there, because she is so big and tall. But the owner insisted on sitting her and posing her. "Smile, Fancy!"

I don't have any photos that we took at the concert, but Mike and I went with Eric ( for HIS birthday) and Gayela and attended a Carpenter's tribute band concert at the Heritage Center. It was really fun. Brought back a lot of memories. Even Eric listened to the Carpenters during the time that he worked for Jack Reardon in the cabinet making shop. And the rest of us just know the Carpenters because we are that old. Karen Carpenter certainly did die too young. We were recognized in the concert by the lady performing the music. She called us out as celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary. (It was in 2 days.) Fun times. Eric caused that recognition to happen because Sterling, a friend of his, was her costume designer and maker, so he (Sterling) used his influence with the performer whose name i don't recall to put us on her agenda that night. Sterling's not just the performers costumer, he is also her friend.

And THEN--we finally got to go to the St George temple open house. It was so lovely. You can check out photos online. Mike pushed his sister around in a wheelchair. He really worked up a sweat, and his knee was really sore afterwards. I took all the stairs. I've been wondering during all of the remodel what they did with that big chunk of building they added to the west side of the Temple. The back side. And it was a grand staircase. All four floors. It was gorgeous.

And very crowded at one point. Most of the time I could zip up or down the stairs and meet Mike and his sister at the elevator. One time when I had to wait to go down the stairs because there was a very slow line, they did not wait for me. No fair! But we finally did meet up again. Also, I noticed that the tour skipped the third floor. There was no entry there. But I'm guessing it's just sort of small and not able to accommodate coming and goings of people. I think they still have third floor sealing rooms for proxy sealings. But I don't know. The floor and the door was still there in the stairwell. Everything was so lovely. I am so glad we got to go. I would love to go and attend a session there. Someday. After the temple open house, the three of us went out to eat at the Golden Corral buffet. Oink oink oink.

I missed two of Mom's appointments by being gone that day, September  18. In the morning she met with her physical therapist. I would have liked to have seen what exercises he was having her do and not do. In the afternoon at 1:00 p.m. was a follow-up visit with her primary care physician, Matt Ryanearson. And I definitely would have liked to have heard what they had to say to her at that. But, somebody did write up notes, and I took pictures of them when she brought them home.

Friday, September 22nd, was Cedar high school's homecoming parade and football game. The parade went right by the end of our street on 600 south, so I went down to watch it. I had a nice visit with Mike and Katie Humes while waiting for it to start, and after it started, I crossed the street and had a nice visit with Jamie DePoe and her two daughters. Her son is in the marching band. That CHS Band was AMAZING!!!

SUU has been having their homecoming celebration activities all week. I have actually been on campus for 3 days this week, working in the library at the invitation of Matt Nickerson. He was hoping I could help fill in the training gaps for the circulation supervisor now. I've been there a little over 6 hours, and done some other emails and inquiries. I will be going back next week to do a bit more training and hope for the best. I told them I could make no guarantees, but would try. Apparently they have had quite a mess there, and I'm sorry. But I am not a miracle worker. It was nice for my ego, however. :-)

Mike's knee has been hurting him quite badly. Even though he had a shot a week ago as we left Salt Lake from being at Nick and Kaylee's, it still is very sore. He's been trying to clean out the garage in preparation for Apple season, but it's just been irritating it further. So, I went to the homecoming Forever Red  celebration last night without him.

Fireworks, music, more entertainment and a LOT of people!

I also enjoyed this lovely sunset from my bike ride down there. That's the most I have ridden my bike in the past two years since retirement.
I rode it to the library all three days that I was working there this week ( and last week's initial appointment), I rode it to Usher at the Friday afternoon USF matinee, and I rode it to Forever Red on Friday night. I also had a fun visit with Deb Ashdown Chelsey who was here for some family gatherings and to see some Shakespeare plays. I rode my bike there too. But it was on the way to Shakespeare's ushering assignment so that doesn't count as anything extra. I will remember in the future to get a better running start to ride up the music building Hill on my bike. Boy, where my thighs ever burning trying to get up that little hill!

Kenzie Baker's wedding

Kenzie Baker is Gayela's granddaughter. She belongs to Rebecca. She has been engaged for close to a year to a young man named Kristian. They were married today, September 23rd, 2023. The ceremony and reception took place in a quaint little venue called the Red Barn in a place called Central Valley, Utah. We have never heard of that place! It's near Annabella, south of Richfield, Utah. Very tiny, very quaint, rustic and elegant at the same time. Mike and I drove up there Saturday morning with Gayela. It will be her last day with us for a while. She is heading up north to spend some time with her other children. The wedding was a good place to do a handoff. Gayla has been with us for about 3 weeks. It was fun to see her other children. We visited with Archi and Ellen, Angela and her younger son, and Rebecca's family.

The ceremony started close to 45 minutes late. MacKenzie's uncle Alan Baker was the officiator who married them. Unfortunately, Mackenzie suffers from anxiety and depression, and the anxiety really took hold on this day. So besides the wedding starting late, we never really figured out just when the reception did start. There was a gap between the belated wedding and the ceremony where the family and the wedding party took their photos inside and outside, some tables were set up inside, but the rest of us were just left to kind of wonder what to do. So we sat around and chatted. Eventually we were told we could eat, but only because I had to ask Rebecca. I saw some people in line and figured it must have been time. Kind of disorganized. We figured we would attend a 1:00 p.m. wedding, wait for the reception to begin at 3:00, grab a bite to eat and say our goodbyes. It didn't work quite like that. We did head home close to 5:00 p.m. however. And eventually we did manage to meet the groom and offer our congratulations. I was able to speak briefly with Mackenzie and congratulate her.

I had brought a card for the couple and placed it in a container on the gift table when we arrived for the wedding. When the reception was starting, I guess (nothing was ever really clear, people were just running around doing stuff), I did notice that the card container contained a zero cards. I was hoping nobody had stolen them. Rebecca did tell me that Chris has a cousin who likes to steal money, so she had been gathering the cards as they came and placing them in her purse. That was a relief to know that they were being cared for.

Then there were some other drama going on on the phones with either the bride and groom or somebody else consisting of having money stolen online from a frozen account or some strange thing. It caused people to go running to an fro. One person was was heard outside -- but only by me, I think-- yelling about"MY money...!!!" And the bride had a broken fingernail and hurt her brother's feelings, the ex Grandpa was there and just as rude as he's always been, way too much drama. Way way too much drama. But, Mike and I were glad we went to support Gayela and her family.

The food was nice and filling ( pulled pork sandwiches, salads and chips), our goodie bag was plentiful ( nuts and M&Ms) and our drive home was pleasant. Tho Mike did let me drive from Beaver. And I was just as sleepy as HE was!! We made it. Whew! And I needed a nap.

The inside of the barn was elegant rustic, the outside had a fountain, little creek, lots of grass, flower beds, play areas, trampoline, gazebo.  And this darling pumpkin coach.

Stucco time. And Tending for me!

First off, I'm a huge fail when it comes to hair styles. Poor Emily.

At least the pony tail keeps hair out of her eyes.

And the expressions and smiles are endless. Sometimes tears, too.
She's such a tease And a Daredevil. I was pushing her on the swing set, told her to "Hang on tight!" And. She LET GO!

Quiet time looking at her " phone."

Mike is helping Nick with the exterior of his workshop. It's big and tall. 12 x 24.

Measure twice, cut once. He is putting on the white foam backing base for the stucco.

Nick's Father-in-law came on Monday to help, too.

Between he and two Mikes, the foam was all installed on Monday!

In the front Monday evening with his Star Wars Helmet. It has a microphone/ speaker. Cool.

Tuesday morning Mike L started the stucco application tutorial.

It's all taped and ready to go!

Beginnings.

And one more cute shot of Emily, all ready to go shopping with her purses, dolly and stroller.

Mike, between stucco sessions with Nick. He was exhausted. Sore. Hopefully un-damaged.
I'm impressed that Mike has been able to do as much as he has, but he IS very sore and very VERY tired.
