We made a four day trip over to Denver to see Katie and Casey's family.
It was fun. The drive over was only scarey once when we very nearly rear-ended a long string of stopped cars on the mountain passes. Whew! Mike used his mad driving skills and was able to move to the other lane--where, thankfully there were no cars for a space or two, allowing us to stop without hitting anyone.
We just watched basketball(Mike), played MANY games of Candyland(me). Read stories. Watched movies. Ate good food. Made a trip to Costco. Visited. Showed Hayden and Corbin Katie's old school papers and reports which I brought over to her. She got HER old ceramics, too! I forgot to take a photo of them. I gave her the kindergarten handprint, too, made from the round disk of clay. Katie's was even glazed. She made a cute turtle out of clay, too, in grade two.
We also worked on getting Katie's front-load washer cleaned out. It needed de-gunking badly. I dont know if we succeeded, but we did succeed in flooding the laundry room a bit in the process.
Sunday, we took a drive through the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Reserve. That was fun and we saw lots of wildlife...deer, birds, bison. We had to take two cars and communicate via walkie talkies. Or two-way radios. Our kids are so funny. They narrate, converse, joke, let five-year old kids drive. (Steer). We had Hailey with us un our car. She's funny. She just chatted and sang all the way home. The first half of the drive she was really quiet. Katie said she didnt know quite what to do without her "wingman" twin. Ha ha.
We really had to watch the weather closely. We knew it would probably be snowy on Sunday and Monday. They did get snow. Nice, wet, deep snow. About 6-8 inches. And it was do perfect for snowballs, but no one played.
Mike and I just left on Monday around 10 am. The roads were wet, but clear of snow. The passes were fairly easy since they were not snow packed OR icy. We felt very blessed. Katie packed us up with lots of treats and snacks for the ride. We made good time and spent the remaining time in our evening listening to the end of our murder mystery audio book, stretched out on our bed.
I guess we got in around 7:30 p.m. One caffeinated drink each both ways.
