Thursday, May 13, Animal Kingdom

We woke up  on our own again this morning. Ahhhhhh, no alarms on vacation. But we still took time to get a good breakfast. We got to the park about an hour after opening. Once we rented Mike's ECV (Electric Conveyance Vehicle), we headed to wait in line for the Safari ride.   It was really nice. We saw lots of animals from the big truck we were in. Giraffes, lions, antelope, etc. Its a fun, slow, rough ride.

Animal Kingdom is arranged really cool. There are 4 "Lands" with a central island in the center of them all. There is a jungle feel to the whole place.  Lots of trees, vines, orchids, bromelaids, ferns, palms... it was really cool. Literally. We had Cloud cover all day long. There are Lots of animals on display. Howler monkeys are particularly fun and noisy.

We rode a train out to Rafiki 's place. We were just going to board the train, get off, an re-board, but I changed my mind and we walked down to the conservation area and ended up drawing Bambi!

The roller coaster in Asia was GREAT. I got off and went right back to on to ride again!.  Expedition Everest. Such a cool one. Neat line, too. Fun decor with expedition gear and Nepalese stuff all over. Loved it.

We got SOAKED on the river raft ride. Ick. I did NOT enjoy walking around in wet underwear for a few hours. (And that was why Bambi is so wrinckled. They were in my pocket.)

I was sad to not find an Indiana Jones type ride in my research, but we found one in Dinosaur Land! Long line, great thrill ride. We would have done it twice,  but the line was too long. All the lines are too long. Ugh.

But we chugged along and lasted all day, riding and waiting, resting when we could. We had a good lunch...wandered around a lot to and fro across the park.

We saved the best for last and left on a high note. The Avatar ride was spectacular.  Loved it! Mike was energized enough that he walked to our car out in the lot.

Whew. Long day. It was close to seven pm when we left. We still had time to soak in hot tubs, and that's what we did. I'm pretty sure that is what has been keeping us going. That and lots of sleep. Ha.

My homework for today in preparation for Animal Kingdom was to watch Avatar. So I DID . . . Last night. That's a long movie and I was up late.  That explains why we were not in the park early. Oh well. We still did lots and lasted a long time for some old farts.

That Tree of Life  us really cool.
The buses that took us on safari.

The train that took us to Rafiki 's Conservation Station. The props were so cute. All kinds of stuff piled on top.
