Lydia's Canyon, June 17, 2020

Lydia's Canyon is located just north of Glendale, Utah, on Highway 89. It's rural and lovely. It is quiet. It's safe and fun.  And it's full of pollen. I sneezed so hard on Monday and Tuesday that I had sore abs and ribs on Wednesday!  And I wasn't the only one. Nick used his pharmaceutical skills (and generosity) and went to a local store to fine more allergy meds for all us sneezy folks.  Now we had a variety in the medicine cabinet to choose from.  I double dosed and finally go over it.  Whew. It was severe for those first days!  See the tall grasses (below)?  All pollen.

Gail and Tandy dressed in yellow and black that day. I did not get the memo.
I'm tellin' ya. That front porch, the porch swing...it was just so pleasant!
On Wednesday, I had to help Mike with a couple of things for our building permit. We took a drive into Orderville to use the phones, makes some calls, buys some more ice for our ice chests and our outing the following day.  So GAIL was the game lady!  She sent them all on scavenger hunts and took care of prizes and keeping littler people happy.  There were prizes and fun, bubbles and games.

Quintin likes to circle the letters he knows in the "Word Find" book he selected as one of his prizes.

Hailey got a bug catching kit for one of her prizes. She did use it!
Jonathan was playing a form of pickle ball with the other kids out on the lawn.
I don't know. This is Hayden and Casey walking off, eyes tuned to a screen in their hands.  And it's not for GPS. Their cabin was a mere 50 yards away.
Nick and Kaylee's family provided the dinner for that night.  Sweet pork burritos. Yum. I forgot to mention that on Tuesday night it was Damian and Tandy's meal of Dutch Oven Potatoes and chicken. Yum Yum! Their activity was Goliath.  Nick's activity was a really fun version of "Two truths and a Lie" with "Guess who" and it was a LOT of fun for all the older kids. The younger ones, not so much, but Ella just wanted to keep going and going.  He really did a good job with that activity (Nick) and he shared his document with all the facts (and non-facts) about family members--those where were there, and ancestors from all four grandparents and beyond. It was so much fun.
And then, for the later-evening entertainment, we took our chairs and blankies outside to watch "Night at the Museum" 3, complements of Damian and Tandy and their equipment they brought. It was fun to do that and I didn't even get one single mosquito bite. I did spray myself really well, and I did stay covered up. Poor Mike was cold, so he went inside.  We didn't think to bring him a jacket!  We even had popcorn to go with the movie!  The pictures make it look like it was light, but I guess my camera really gathers up the light, because it was quite dark for the film-viewing.

This is another view of the family history game. Rachel was Nick's score-keeper. And she did her tally marks with a Sharpie!
Oh!  We had snowcones, too!  Fun times.

Tuesday the 16th, Gail sponsored a White Elephant BINGO game with the grandkids. They had fun, they got prizes and they could swap their prizes. Not too many adults played, but it was a fun time.
And sometimes it was just really fun to sit around the table and visit with one another.
The kids discovered soon that there were stables right behind our cabin, past the large storage garage. There were two mares with foals!  How fun.  Rachel particularly enjoyed throwing some hay into their troughs.  Katie said that one of the horses tried to take a bite of Hailey's red hair!  After two days of enjoying seeing the horses, the owners took them back to the barn on their other property.
Here's a photo of Damian and Seth cleaning up after cooking all the dutch oven foods.  Wow. That was a lot of food!  Unfortunately, one large oven fell off the serving table, dumping the chicken right on to the patio.  It was bagged up and named "Patio Chicken."  Three second rule and all, you know?  Plus, it mostly just fell in a heap on top of one another, so it didn't get really dirty.  In truth, it was the wooden deck they fell on. No dirt. No cement. Just wood.  I took home the leftovers and we've been eating it. It's totally fine.
