NOT Disney World, but VACATION Time 6/15/2020- 6-16/2020

Kids started gathering at our house and around on Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14. Here's tiny Caillou the dog in a tiny tent.  With Katie and Hailey.

Wow. Gail's hair is so long!

Here's some cute cousins.  Gail, Seth, Caroline and Jonathan came on Saturday. They brought their great big travel trailer and parked it in the driveway at Grandma and Grandpa Liebhardt's house on Fir Street. Jonathan decided to sleep at our house and wait for Katie's family to come.  They got in at Midnight.  In the meantime, Jonathan lost a molar!  I mean, he pulled it out. I had to text Gail and let her know AND find out what the going rate was for the tooth fairy these days. ha.
It's been a minute, you know?

Tandy and Kids got into town late on Saturday, too, so they dropped by on Sunday afternoon for a visit. Damian is here, too!  It's unusual for all of them to be here, but remember we've been planning for this Disney (but not Disney) family vacation for about 2 years now.

And some things seldom change. Jonathan, playing games on his device in the kitchen while everyone else is visiting in the living room.

Seth and Gail.  We had home church with Gail's family at our house.  It was only a few weeks ago that we had home church with Gail and Seth at their house!

On Monday, June 15, we all packed and packed and packed and packed all day long, then headed over to Glendale, Utah.  Just over the mountain on Highway 89. We stayed at Lydia's Lodge and Lydia's Cottage rentals owned by Hal and Mercy Stout. They were so cute!  Braeden immediately climbed a tree in the yard. All the kids explored.
The cabin was really a log cabin. The interior was wood, there were two bathrooms and three bedrooms plus big open areas.   We toured around when folks go there.  And then we UN packed and UN Packed and UN packed.  Mostly Food.  My Goodness. We brought so much food.  Food everywhere!
Tandy and I are inspecting the bathroom on the main level.  It was a couple of days before I knew that there was a medicine cabinet behind those mirrors! ha.
The front porch/patio area was so comfy. This porch swing was a favorite. We kept all the drink coolers out here. There was lots of other comfy seating, plus we brought more folding chairs, so we ALL fit on the porch at once!  We ate outside on it, too. Seth and Gail grilled us some yummy burgers and hot dogs for our dinner that night.

Jane is playing Peek-a-Boo under Kaylee's legs.  With Tandy (below).

The afternoon sunshine at dinner time was a bit uncomfortable, just for lighting, but the temperatures were great!  Not too hot, not too cold.  We were so pleased.  There were mosquitos, unfortunately. But we had bug spray, so it wasn't the end of the world.

It may look like they are all just playing on phones, but we really did have a Family Home Evening Lesson after dinner, compliments of Tandy and her organizational skills.  We talked about David and Goliath, personal goliaths and slings. We looked up scriptures and shared them.

Tandy had some helpers to paint a larger, life-sized GOLIATH.  Lexi, Logan, Tandy and Seth are pictured, but Ella helped, too. I even painted his bright red skirt. Or tunic. Whatever.

And then we all went out to try our hand at shooting Goliath right between the eyes with a paintball--using a sling shot. It was a hit with all the kiddos.  And adults.

Ah. The dry air. It gets to everyone eventually. Jonathan with a tissue stuffed up his (bloody) nose. Hayden. They had a large screen television and Netflix on their tv!  Guess what those boys wanted to do all day?  Yep. Play on devices and watch movies.  And sometimes they did.
More of the Paintball activity.  Sorry these are such blurry photos!  They are from my phone and are not edited. It's hard to choose which ones are clearest from little thumbnail size icons.

June 16.  In the late morning, after breakfast, we went south of Glendale to take a little hike through the belly of the dragon.  It is really a drainage tunnel dug under highway 89 to allow water to the other side of the road, but it was really fun to see!

It's all sandstone, so there are lots of names carved in the walls.  I never saw a 'Linda,' but we did find a "Mike."

Ah HA!  The light at the end of the tunnel!!

Our Tuesday activity was a HUMAN PINATA!  It was Nick with Candy hot-glued to his shirt and if you wanted Candy, you had to chase him down to get it!  ANd they did!.

Towards the end, he just stood still. But there were some candies worth grabbing off that shirt!
Braeden and Tandy have some See's suckers. Yum.
 Damian, Gail, Mike.
Kaylee with Jane.  Poor Jane.  Or, rather Poor Kaylee. Jane is very much a momma's girl and can't stand to be out of Kaylee's arms for very long at all.  And all these strange people?  All the noise and commotion?  All the more reason to stay in her Momma's arms where she was mostly happy and content. Pam came up for a couple of days, too. The photo above has Jane and Kaylee, Caroline and Lexi on the porch swing, and Pam.
On Tuesday afternoon, we took turns in two groups and went on a horse-drawn wagon ride for an hour each.  We just went up and down the Canyon  Road and it was fun. Below is the first group.

We are paitiently awaiting our turn on the wagon ride while enjoying the cool shade on the front porch area.

 AND enjoying our suckers. Yum.

Casey took his turn at the reins and did a good job of guiding us down the canyon road.
Hailey and Corbin took turns, too!  Hal Stout was a great host. He had lots of information about the team, the canyon, etc. It was fun.  Quintin fell asleep during the ride in the hot sun, unfortunately.

And Seth discovered he had a pinhole leak in his radiator!  Yikes.
